The project comprised the entire remodelling of the ground floor layout to the existing terraced property to achieve an open plan, well lit functional living area combining cooking, dining, and living areas. The first floor works included general refurbishment including the creation of a contemporary bathroom. A series of internal structural alterations where undertaken to achieve a reconfigured layout enabling the entire ground floor to be fully open plan.
A fully glazed infill side and rear extension enables the interior to be flooded with daylight, utilising an aluminium framed full width double glazed roofing system with aluminium framed, sliding folding doors installed across the fully width of the ground floor to enable the kitchen / dining area to extend out onto a level timber deck.  suite. The space is top lit via new skylights and heated via electric underfloor heating installed beneath the slate tiled floor finishes. Both neighbouring properties subsequently commissioned similar designed and built approaches.
The project took approximately 10 months on site and was completed in 2007. The project was constructed in parallel to similar extension works to the neighbouring property, which enabled the use of a shared main contractor, engineer and our practice as the architect to reduce overall costs and ease various party wall agreements and statutory approvals.
