THE BRIDGE LEARNING CAMPUS | BRISTOL
Chris undertook this regenerative project whilst working as an Associate at Wilkinson Eyre Architects. Chris was responsible for managing the design team from the detailed design stages, which included preparation of construction information and managing the project right through to it’s successful completion on site. Chris undertook an intensive on site role as Site Architect on behalf of the main Contractor – Skanska.
The Bridge was the second Bristol school Chris undertook the design and management of on behalf of Skanska/WEA for Bristol City Council as part of the Authority’s Education PFI initiative. The Bridge was the first through school to be constructed, co-locating a nursery, primary, secondary, pupil referral and server learning difficulties unit on a single site with a total number of pupils topping 2000.
The building comprised of a series of cluster’s which where connected via a habitable spine of academic accommodation, providing a range of communal facilities including an auditorium, drama suite, dining area, open courtyard garden and library. The design and layout of the building enabled each facet of the school to operate independently to minimise distress particularly to the younger pupils, whilst the shared resource spaces enabled a dual benefit of cost and space.
