The project comprised the entire remodelling of the ground floor layout to the existing property to achieve an open plan, well lit functional living area combining cooking, dining and living areas. A series of internal structural alterations where undertaken to achieve a reconfigured layout enabling a large new open plan kitchen to be created, which extends into a new gable end timber framed extension, fabricated by a local structural green oak frame specialist.
The green oak frame design enabled a large section of the new façade to be fully glazed, whilst the use of engineered timber sliding folding doors enables the new kitchen to fully open out onto the adjacent garden areas.
The project took approximately 6 months on site and was completed in October 2010. The use of salvaged and locally sourced materials and components assisted reduce the overall construction cost, whilst minimised the environmental impact of the works.
